WAYS TO COPE WITH THE STRESS OF MOVING
Moving is considered one of the most stressful events we go through in our lives. It can be a challenge to know how to cope with the stress of moving to a new home.
We move a lot of people here at MOVEMAKERS and we endeavour to make moving easier for our clients. But you can also take some steps of your own to turn this stressful experience into a positive one. Here are some tips to reduce moving stress,
If you look at moving as a stressful and negative experience, it’s more likely it will be. But if you look at it through a positive lens, it can be incredibly productive and cathartic.
Moving is an opportunity to assess what’s important in your life and purge old, unnecessary stuff. It’s a chance to declutter and start fresh in a new home.
STAY ORGANISED AND PACK EARLY.
Moving takes a lot of time and energy, so organisation will be your best tool for avoiding stress. Gather the right supplies early on so you have plenty of time to pack. Reassess where you are at with packing a week out and schedule some professional packing help if you are running out of time. Categorize everything and label boxes accordingly. Schedule your MOVEMAKERS move team well in advance. And don’t forget to take care of the other little things like changing your address, canceling subscriptions and services, and cleaning your home in time for its new owners. Staying organised and thinking ahead will ensure your move goes a lot easier.
USE PROPER REMOVALS BOXES AND PACKING MATERIALS. WHEN IN DOUBT, HIRE PROFESSIONALS PACKERS.
Use proper supplies (like sturdy boxes, packing paper, moving blankets and bubble wrap) to protect your possessions. This will ensure your possessions are protected well and it will make the job easier for the move team.
On moving day, be sure to have a reliable and professional removals team like MOVEMAKERS.
BE FLEXIBLE. ESPECIALLY WHEN SETTLEMENT IS INVOLVED.
You can plan moving day as much as you like but things will never run totally smoothly. It’s best to just go with the flow, deal with problems as they arise and be flexible enough to change plans if you need to.
SCHEDULE THE CLEANER FOR THE DAY AFTER YOUR MOVE.
Most people severely underestimate how long it takes to clear out a house. Unless you have settlement, don’t stress yourself out by booking the cleaner for the afternoon of your moving day. Instead, schedule them for the morning after. Alternatively let our team know and we will move room by room and you can follow after to clean.
UNPACK AND GET BACK TO LIFE.
It will take time to reorganise and get comfortable in your new place, but don’t put off unpacking! Moving is stressful because it’s disruptive to your regular routine. The sooner you unpack and get settled, the sooner you’ll feel grounded and ready to start your next chapter.
